Her best friend

I LOVE taking candid shots of people doing natural things. This woman, Tommie Gips, couldn't help but pet this puppy. She fell in love with it. He was relieving her stress before finals at Victoria College.

Remember our veterans

Andrew Gonzalez, 88, returned home to Texas in 1945 after being a sergeant in World War II. He took the train from Tennessee to Bryan, Tex. and hitchhiked to where he knew his mother would be: laboring in the field. He was 24.

Graduation: A New Chapter

I covered a graduation last year. The girl in the middle just sort of lit up in the middle of the hallway. I couldn't resist.

Carrying the Cross: Easter passion play

For two years in a row, I've shot pictures of the Passion Play, put on by the Catholic Church in town, and both times, it has been a very powerful experience.

Little girls

There's something sweet about a little girl's smile. They're beautiful.

Family portrait

A family asked me if I'd take their family portraits for a holiday card. I hope they liked them.

Victoria's own little fighter

Little Rene Sierra, 9, of Victoria, was diagnosed with cancer at age 4, but has been on remission ever since with yearly MRI's. We followed him to a Spurs game for Cancer Survivor's Night, where he joined more than 100 other child survivors for an evening of fun with his family.

Cutting hair for a cause

Memorial High School students wanted to help the Rotary Club raise money to purchase vaccines to eradicate polio. If the school raised more than $1,000, student Alex Davis and teacher Bob Sheeran agreed to get their heads buzzed. It was broadcast throughout the entire school.
